Been a while since I posted, got rather busy with family stuff and am now working on a project. Luckily I can somewhat keep up with these schoolism tutorials, not many left to go. This one was about handling clouds which I'll admit I don't often make time for. I went through it 3 times trying out different looks and styles for clouds, finally went with these guys.

Character Design and Walk Cycle
Character Walk Cycle from V on Vimeo.
Here's something a little different, I recently had to do an animation test for a company and this is what I ended up with. The instructions were pretty basic, rig and animate a character walk cycle. So I spent time doing a bit of concept at first to make a simple but hopefully appealing character. It ended up looking pretty good and received a better colouring later on. The program I had to use was different but easy to understand and learn, the only issue was I couldn't export using the trial version, but there are ways around that...

Paint a Face
Next lesson, learning to paint skin. I went through this one a good 4 times trying out the process the teacher demonstrated, it's a very handy tutorial and I might go through it again just to make sure I got it right. A really useful part of this tutorial was painting eyes, It's something I never really looked into before, and I gotta say it actually turns out really nicely.

Always Learning
Still working on them painting tutorials, this one is lesson 5 where you learn to paint and render fur. I went through this one maybe 3 times just to get a better grip on the process. I like how it turned out, it certainly gives a nice look to the fur.

Oh the Layout
A forest! So pretty, I think this is the last layout I have to show and can start with posting other things. I'm glad I was able to get more experience with doing layouts, it's definitely an important area to learn.

Layout Would Ya
Another layout going up, meant for a pan left to right, I enjoyed this one for the lighting and the detailing I was able to put into the stone.

More Layooting
Another layout that I did, I think this one took me a bit longer due to the stairs, but I can only spend so much time on them having to do several layouts everyday.

Layoot
Been a long time since I posted on here due to work, but I've decided to get some of my stuff up. I'll be mostly posting layouts, still have to decide on which ones since I have so many.

Lesson 4
Lesson 4 of the painting tutorials, I had some issues with this one, not only because painting glass is something I rarely do, but also because the file became corrupted and I lost my work. After that it threw me back a bit, got distracted by other things, and finally went and redid it. It was definitely a challenge, and I feel it could probably use more work, but I'm going to move on for now. Maybe I'll come back later and try to improve.

Work!
Here's something a little different, some rooms I had to draw out and paint for some freelance I did. Was a short amount of time so had to be done rather quickly, an hour on each room or so but turned out pretty nice in the end.

Layouted
Another layout quickly painted up, this one ended up being more cartoony, but I still like the look. It took a bit longer than the last one when I ran into not knowing what to put in the painting problems, but it was all resolved, in total I'll say 4.5 maybe. It definitely showed me some things I can improve on, which is always good, in the end it was nice practice.

Quick BG Paint
Here's a quick painting of a mountain cave I did, it's part practice part having to learn to do more than just character paintings. I think I only spent around 3 hours on it, was hoping to be faster but started testing out different things just to see how it would look. In the end i liked it for the amount of work I put into it, and will definitely be trying to improve on the next one.

Truck Rotation
Sequence 01 2 from V on Vimeo.
Just a quick rotation of the truck model I have going, along with, i guess a re-construction you could call it. Wanted to make sure people could see the under laying work, so it rebuilds itself in a way, just so you can see it all.

Lesson 3
Lesson 3, reflections and warping and all kinds of complicated. It's funny how I've been realizing how little I actually paint realistic textures and objects, compared to my usual creatures. As stated this one was about painting reflections for different types of textures, each object with its own separate behavior. It should be noted that the BG is supplied and that I didn't paint it, but the rest was, what took the longest was the wood, I originally meant to make it stone with a gem at the top, but it just didn't look right.

Eye see
Just doing some studies in amongst all the other things I've got going, been working on improving my ability to draw humans, and one of the biggest issues I have is eyes. So here's a bunch of female eyes, painted from reference of course, otherwise how else would I learn. This definitely helped me learn more about eyes and the surrounding area, so hopefully my humans turn out better.

Lesson 2
Lesson 2 of the lighting tutorial, same thing as lesson 1 except this time with some colour, and a bit of a texture. This one I went over a few times, trying out different methods of throwing down paint with brushes, just wanted to see the different looks i could get. One of the major points of this one was being able to apply reflective colour from one object to the next.

Painting Break
Been working on painting tutorials again just to keep myself from getting rusty, seeing as how I've been doing so much 3d. The first one is just a basic lighting painting in black and white, just to practice directional lighting. It was fairly simple, didn't spend a lot of time on it, but it was good for refreshing my memory and making sure I knew what I was doing when it came to painting light.

Truck Update
Alright so here's the the truck all modeled out and ready to go, I'll be going through and laying out the uv's after this. It could take a bit because there's so many small pieces and detail going on with this thing. It's looking good though, probably the most complicated thing I've modeled so far.

Working
Working on more tutorials right now and realized I forgot to post in the last few days, so here's a preview of what I have so far. It's a massive CAT 789C mining truck that I'm modeling out, and while it hasn't been taking me too long it can be pretty complicated because of all the little parts. The biggest issue I've been having is finding good reference for the frame and other areas under the bucket.

Now for Something Different
Part of another lesson I'm going through with these new tutorials, I figured it wasn't overly required to do these because it's about preparing a bot for modeling, but eh seemed fun. So I just tried out quick little silhouettes and sketches, and marked the favorites with the red dots.
